The Secret Wedding
This past weekend, we had the honour to work with an amazing couple on their engagement party plan! We provided décor planning including, set-up, take-down, and day-of coordination.
Our clients were planning a destination wedding for 2021, and of course those plans have been put on hold. As gathering restrictions have started to lift in Manitoba, they wanted to have an engagement party so they could celebrate with their closest friends and family! Turns out, this engagement party was actually a Secret Wedding! The guests were shocked and thrilled to celebrate the marriage of the happy couple.
The Theme
The couple wanted to create a laid-back tropical vibe with pops of glam. The party was held at the groom’s parent’s acreage with lots of space where we could set up an outdoor tent and bring their vision to life. There were many elements on the property that were already a perfect for the theme - an authentic looking tiki bar and a little beach area which made the perfect place for a beach bar.
Seating
We set-up different seating areas so that guests could spread out, this included seating around the pool area, throughout the yard, and in the tent! Instead of doing traditional banquet tables, we used conversation style patio sets, each one creating its own cozy area. The intention was to align with a laid-back, casual vibe and make it easy for guests to separate in small groupings. We visually connected all of the patio sets with throw blankets and pillows in tropical patterns and coordinated centerpieces. We glammed up the tent with organza draping, custom hoop chandeliers, and lots of candlelight! And of course, we added palm leaves and spray-painted pineapples throughout to emphasize the feel beachy.
The Bar
The couple built their own pallet bar which was a stunning and authentic addition to the décor. To up the glam factor we created a fabric and twinkle light backdrop to hang from the treehouse behind the bar. To the bar set-up we added a side table with grab and go beverages to prevent long lines and congestion. Guests enjoyed a signature cocktail, The Goomba Smash, which was created at a small island bar in Green Turtle Caye, where the couple went on their first vacation together.
As guests entered the space they passed by the Welcome Drinks display and could quickly grab a drinks! We had a variety of wines, bubbly, the signature cocktail and non-alcoholic options. This space was turned over for the dessert table after dinner.
The Fun
The couple hired a DJ who set up in the tree-house to play tunes all night long. We also set up a photo-booth backdrop so guests could take silly photos and share them to Instagram, providing a fun memento for the couple too.
And to top off the night, the couple arranged to have a stunning firework show after dark! The party was a huge success, the new Bride and Groom were glowing all night and guests had a great time celebrating.
