Let’s talk Guac

One of our favourite things to whip up for a quick snack, party appetizer or as an addition to Taco Tuesday is Guacamole, so it only seemed fitting that we share our love (and recipe) on National Guacamole Day!

Our guacamole recipe takes less than 5 minutes to make. It is super simple, healthy, and oh so delicious.

  • ½ of a Purple Onion

  • 2 Limes

  • 2 Cloves of Garlic

  • 1 Jalapeno

  • ½ Cup Cilantro

  • Salt & Pepper to taste

THE DIRECTIONS

  1. Half the avocados (vertically), remove the pit, and scoop out the avocado

  2. Mash avocado with a fork (We use the handy Pampered Chef masher pictured)

  3. Dice purple onion and Jalapeno (remove seeds)

  4. Mince garlic (We use the Pampered Chef Garlic Press pictured, it is seriously the best)

  5. Juice limes (use a Citrus Press or juice by hand)

HELPFUL TIPS

CHOOSING THE RIGHT AVOCADO

To make Guacamole you need an avocado that is ripe… but choosing a ripe avocado can be tricky. If you choose one that is under-ripe, it will be hard and you’ll need to wait for it to ripen before you can use it. If you choose one that is too ripe, it will be mushy and brown….yuck

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Look the dark coloured avocados. Then give it a gentle squeeze. Does it give a little bit without squishing or denting? Awesome! This is probably you avocado! But there is one more test, take a look under the stem… If its green, you’re good to go. If it’s brown, it’s past its prime.

RIPEN IT QUICKER

Couldn’t find a suitable avocado? That’s okay, put your avocados in a paper bag with an apple and let them hang out together for a few days!
