Elevated Ladies’ Night In – Local’s Edition

We’re always sad to see summer go as it is by far our favourite season! So, each year as we bid “See Ya Next Year” to summer, we always host one final outdoor party. And this year was no different! We decided to host a small and intimate Ladies' Night In. And we decided to jump on board with one of the latest trends – Picnics.

Our menu and décor focused on products and services that are available from other great local businesses.

The Decor
This wasn’t just any picnic, it was an edgy yet feminine evening picnic! We sat outside and enjoyed the best company and the laughter was endless as the sun went down and the candlelight glowed.  We dressed the table with a long and luxurious dark teal table runner with dozens of candles and kept the mood cozy by adding throw pillows and blankets.

We rented the most stunning place settings from Union Table – we chose the premium cast dishware as a bold addition to our tablescape and gold flatware for a feminine and glam pop against the dark coloured dishes and black picnic table. We also included their crystal wine glasses to add a little sparkle to the table. The place settings you choose for your party should be considered part of the décor and should really add to the overall theme and ambience you’re aiming to achieve.

The Menu
Grazing boxes are newer trend which are essentially charcuterie boards to-go, which is a trend we are so excited about! We ordered 4 mini grazing boxes from Be Grazeful. They were carefully created, perfectly packaged, and they looked almost too good to eat, but of course we devoured them! They even have vegan boxes, which was perfect for one of our guest

We also enjoyed a spread of fresh summer fruit from Fruit by the Slice (@fruit.by.the.slice on Instagram), who makes custom fruit platters for groups of any size. We also ordered chocolate covered strawberries alongside a half fruit platter that paired wonderfully with our red wine.

Dessert was delightful mini cakes from Flour & Flower who specializes in custom cakes. We loved the adorable mini cakes, they not only look and taste amazing, but they were the perfect portion to go along with all the other amazing local goodies we feasted on. Individual mini cakes are a great alternative to full-sized cakes, especially for intimate gatherings! And there’s no fuss with cutting and plating!

The Drinks
We started with an easy but delicious cocktail – made with Patent 5 Distillery Berry Gin which is locally made in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We kept it simple by mixing it with soda and lemon, which gave it to the coolest purple hue.

We love our red wines, so for this event, we decided to grab a few of our favorite Canadian wines from De Luca Fine Wines. We love that their employees are so helpful (they even provide recommendations online through live chat!), we order right from our computers and it’s delivered for free within 48 hours.
Our choices for the evening were the Rust Wine Co, Cabernet Franc from the Lost Horn Vineyard, Okanagan Falls, British Columbia which is a bolder, spicier red wine, pairing perfectly with our grazing boxes! We also enjoyed another favorite from BC, the Dirty Laundry Cabernet Sauvignon. With hints of chocolate and plums, it was a delicious wine to enjoy with dessert.
